Yes, it's time for SPOOKTOBER 2024, pretty much the only time I post on this blog now - the "2024" bit is a bit of a giveaway as to why that may be - and breaking with my tradition of having a full 11 months to prepare for each outing and still somehow ending up having to watch random copyright-violating uploads on Youtube, this year I am actually making the effort to track things down and consume them, including some of the newer horror franchises aimed at 12 year old girls (which is most of the newer franchises, to be fair), and less - hopefully none - of the old movies I've seen a bazillion times before - so no Alien viewings this year, even if Romulus is in cinemas and is apparently quite Not Terrible.
I have taken the criticism of a family member that I am "not watching the right horror movies" to heart and have collected a slew of supposedly-great horror flicks and tv shows to see me from now into All Hallows' Eve, though I will of course be viewing That Episode of That Show come the night itself. I have even kept my powder dry on some movies I actually want to watch - I Saw The TV Glow is staring at me from the other side of the room as I type - despite their being horror and I - as mentioned often - hate horror media of all kinds, making this annual torture that I put myself through a mystery to us all. Unless you're one of those people who point out "well, for a genre you hate you sure do have a lot of opinions about it, which you insist on sharing with disturbing regularity", in which case you're probably drawing a conclusion about my tastes that I am not quite ready to admit.
Come midnight, I will begin with a viewing of something from the now-embarrassingly-large pile of media - although it's actually quite small as media piles go, as most of the films and shows I'll be watching are on a memory stick, but I feel a solid visual metaphor impresses the concept of a media backlog better than - for example - talking about my Netflix list, although I grant you the latter is probably more relatable in 2024.

I just spent the last 8 years of my life in prison and it looks like I'm gonna spend the rest of it dead
