Tuesday 25th August 2009

Thumbnailing the last of my 'clear-up' jobs as a break from the current (penultimate) one that's basically a 'one camera' story over six pages and a bit samey to draw for too long, or possibly I'm just being arty-precious or something about having to sit my arse down and focus on one thing for any length of time. It probably has more to do with the next job being what amounts to a lifelong ambition - drawing four pages of bear-related massacre for something other than my own amusement.

Monday 24th August 2009

I'd do a review of the last restaurant meal I had if I thought it'd take up a paragraph or two, but I leave that level of self-affirmation to the Twitterverse - I totally need to know not just what you recently ate, dude, but your considered opinion on the merits of the Reggae Sub!
I know I find it hard to write anything on here and the cardinal sin of blogging is 'blogging about blogging', but I'm coming to suspect that the reason for that is so that no-one ever points out you need not so much confidence in your work or lifestyle that it be of interest to the web at large, but also a certain level of self-importance plays no small role in the posting of daily musings, and I really am the more reserved type even if I have managed to post something each day for the better part of three months now. Oh I'm blogging about me, now! Took a minute, but I got there.
Scribbling away at a more cartoony approach than usual, but much of my time was spent getting an eye for the differences in colour palettes between RGB and CMYK, and for the most part I'm flummoxed by the differences in the tablet display, the monitor at home, and the monitor at work. Learning curve.

My crappola movie of the day was the 'pish but nice gimmick all the same' Ready 2 Rumble starring David Arquette, some guy, Oliver Platt, and the cast of then-ECW before the merger with WWE. To call it utter crap is an insult to bowel movements, and I sure am glad I missed that one during my 'anything with a fight scene gets a viewin' period of filmic evaluation.

Sunday 23rd August 2009

I don't know what shames me more - that I willingly watched Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: the Movie, or that I enjoyed it, post-production sound and visual edits to the kung-fu and all. Well, maybe not that last bit, but the nostalgia factor for the movies - tosh or not - that I and my mates sat through for the odd decent bit of kickery punchery is good to experience once in a while. We put up with a LOT of crappy movies during our kung-fu phase (because everyone goes through a kung-fu phase), our tolerance even extending to a brain-amnesty for the films of Albert Pyun, the non-budget Segals, the Eastern Van Dammes, the careers of Cynthia Rothrock, Gary Daniels, Mark 'Iron Chef' Dacascos - all glorious to the growing mind of the pre-interweb kung-fu fan who's willing to overlook their craptitude for want of anything else to watch, but not something to revisit too often in adulthood, or what laughably passes for that in a household where a sizable portion of the living room floor is taken up by Playstation peripherals shaped like guns, guitars and drum kits.
Still doodling away, aimlessly as it's the weekend. Come the weekdays and we're back to the deadlined material. Gettin' closer, that deadline...

Saturday 22nd August 2009

Scribbly day as the oft-delayed webcomic got a momentary bit of attention. Otherwise, a gratefully sedate saturday spent mostly playing the Escape from Butcher bay segment of the Riddick game. I remember not taking to it on the Xbox many years ago, but it seems to be going down fine now. I suspect it comes down to the familiarity of the Playstation controller, as I've never really taken to the alternatives. Odd what makes something for you.
Otherwise I've been catching up with me telly.

Watching: WWE, Metalocalypse, Stormworld, Harvey Birdman, Dark Blue, Royal Pains, Monk
Reading: Spider-Man/Human Torch, 2000ad, Judge Dredd Megazine

Friday 21st August 2009

BAH!
No scribbles today as I'm only just in from work.
Even leaving aside that a 13 hour day of overtime sucks when expected, not even being consulted on the possibility you might have other plans - eating, perhaps - and getting paid less than a paperboy for the privilege just about caps the shitty day I've now lost. I suppose it's actually possible that what remains of the day can get worse - my doctor could ring and tell me I have cancer. And that he should have told me six months ago. Because it's a six month cancer with a midnight deadline.
It's 11:58 - suppose I could boil an egg.

Small beans in the greater scheme of things, I suppose. Annoying, though.
