I can't believe I bleached my mustache for this

One last robot pic to finish up before I get into Dredd and his furry chum!  Oh the japes they will have!

The more I look at you, the angrier I get that you don't have a beard

The usual hit and run post on a monday before I hit the sack, and I'm just squeezing out the last couple of panels of Rathbone before doing a final pass over the pages for edits to fix dodgy drawing, bad perspective, adding tones and so on.  Still not happy with the final pages, but I can admit there's some improvement since the last episode.

Checking Twitter feed from native US East Coasters and every new Twitpic and Instagram snapshot looks like a scene from The Day After Tomorrow, which is quite horrible as you can imagine - I wouldn't wish that film on anyone.
Thinking of you, folks.

It's always sad when anyone explodes

Just two more pages of sci-fi robots to get in the bag and then I get to draw Judge Dredd fighting a bear - because it's important to have life goals.

I'm bored - what say you go out on the wing and pretend to be a gremlin?

I have, for the better part of a month, had 707's proprietary theme from Megaforce stuck in my head to the point that it appeared three times on the one playlist of songs I put together for the gym.

It's official - people in the tent rental industry are just horrible

On the robots again.  Please stand by, normal service - whatever that might once have been - will resume shortly.

Meet me behind the Luxenburg at one o'clock and bring a long wooden box

You would think I would learn to avoid doing repeating panels because of how much more work you end up having to do just to make them line up with each other, but here I am again...
Ooh - new bond trailer is up...

I don't want to put a rat in your face cage - or whatever it is you kids say these days

I had a little hospital visit last week that left me wiped out for days afterwards, but I don't mind saying that those drugs they give you before they shove a camera up your jacksie are the bomb.  I'm almost tempted to go back for another spin except for, y'know, the camera they shove up your jacksie, which I do not actually recall but still object to on general principle.
Anyhoo, now that nonsense is out of the way, my often-delayed return to some semblance of routine can't be postponed any longer and Paul and Dirk's scripts have to be illustrated as best a shambling Irish chimp can manage when he's declared a jihad on most of the photoshop tools to do with colour and grey tones, just as he's drawing lots of crowd scenes of robot Jesuses and could arguably do with something to muddy the pages and obscure the shortcuts and fumbled perspective.  The man writing this... he does not think things through.

You know what we should do? We should enrol you in some man classes.

Just a quick post to meet the daily obligations.  I am currently watching Aliens and the downstairs flat is apparently getting a goat to cut the grass out back, and I do not mean a person who is derogatorily referred to as a goat who will use tools and utensils to trim the foliage, I mean an actual mammalian bovidae who will eat it with his actual goat teeth, because when you are a guy fixin' up a flat with no roofing, flooring, working electrics, ventilation, and which has been declared unfit for human habitation on two separate occasions, what you really need to top things off  in the eyes of your upstairs neighbors is a quadruped of the capra genus running around and shitting on everything because the last time you went into the back yard you somehow managed to smash all the gates into tiny gate pieces.
I think the downstairs landlord is an idiot, is what I am saying.
Or perhaps a genius.  I just realise now that "unfit for human habitation" does not apply to goats.  Of course, goats can't pay rent - or can they?  I'm so confused now...
John Cena is a man with many words on his resume: actor, singer, rapper, comedian, wrestler - unfortunately they all come right after the word "failed", though I have a soft spot for Bad Man, the video starring as it does the late Gary Coleman, who once starred in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century telling a space villain not to be "laying any of that Doctor Doom jive," and that is good enough for me.

Fare thee well, robots!

Finally done with those, so it's off to thumbnail and scribble for a few days in preparation for the rest of the Insomnia GN.

You win this round, poorly-designed robots. You may have won in an underhanded manner by putting a gun to my head and making me drink most of the day away instead of getting some scribbling done, but you win this one...

Watching: Lost, 24, House, the Middle, Modern Family, Ben Hur

Still drawing away at the robots

Away from that, and on account of me not doing fast food or non-downloaded/DVDed television as part of my daily routine, I somehow managed to miss that I now live in a Simpsons parody of the real world...

Watching: Cougartown, Ugly Betty, Wonder Woman, Robocop: the Series, Star Trek: TOS

Watching: CSI Miami, Melrose Place, Trauma, TNA, 90210 - nothing but pure shite today, apparantly.

Watching HBO's Treme, I'm reminded of being so into any given scene - skateboarding, metal, mid-90s dance - that you just slip into the mindset with ease once you're surrounded by the people, a feeling captured in the opening scenes where the first Jazz parade post-katrina makes it's way through the Treme area of New Orleans accruing musicians and locals as it goes, but it continues throughout, be it in Steve Zahn's hand to mouth musician or the performance street-theatre of Mardis Gras Indians as some sort of badge of office, there's just this incredible sense of immersion in a time and place that if you step outside it for a moment and take note of the details of life there it may as well be another planet, and it's that immersion in a culture that crawls out of what's left of the Big Easy that makes Treme work.
You can believe John Goodman's offence at the suggestion that New Orleans isn't one of America's great cities much as you could believe it - warts and all - of the living, breathing entity that was Baltimore in HBO's The Wire, also made with the same staff and methods (local actors, knowledgeable locals as script consultants) as Treme, though the latter substitutes local musicians for the former's police department as the centerpiece of a sprawling ensemble, and while I enjoyed The Wire, I didn't feel quite as invested from the first episode as I do with Treme. It's just fantastic television.

Also Watching: Castle, Damage, ATHF

Halfway through the robotty strip now - not counting my second pass for edits and background details at the end - and damn but my pages look bare without tones. I have no idea why I thought I could cartoony stuff.

Watching: Cold Case, Southland, Human target, Miami Medical - and you know what that show needs? To be more glossy.

Listening: Orbital Blue Album

Sunday, 11 April 2010

Watching: Spartacus, ATHF, Dr Who
Listening: Radiohead, David Bowie, REM

Saturday, 10 April 2010

Still robotting away. Not paying attention to the line weight as much as I should be, though.
